Play Ultimate Frisbee!

NEW! Youth Ultimate on Sundays at Nolte Park - 2pm

The WAFC Middle School League’s Sunday games from 2pm to 4pm will conclude for the Fall 2024 season on Nov. 10th. However, many youth players are interested in continuing casual games and practice at Nolte Park (200 Denver Road) on Sundays from 2pm to 4pm throughout the winter time, especially when the weather is nice. This informal setup is open to beginners and emphasizes having fun, learning new skills, and cross-training through a variety of disc games.

Depending on the number of parents and coaches who join, we’ll likely start with a fun, unconventional drill. For example, we might have a Huck Challenge into a target, a race to retrieve the Dodgebee, or another non-Ultimate-specific activity. After about an hour, we’ll decide as a group what type of game to play. We might play Ultimate, or we could switch it up with Dodgebee (dodgeball with soft discs), CrossBee (a lacrosse-style game using soft discs), or a Disc Golf-inspired game. Suggestions are always welcome! The focus is less on Ultimate itself and more on enjoying various disc games that help build Ultimate Frisbee skills.

If you'd like to stay informed about our gatherings, just send Jon an email, and he’ll add you to the mailing list. Each Saturday, Jon sends out an update to let everyone know if there will be a gathering of people to toss around and play on Sunday starting at 2pm. Whether we meet depends largely on the weather. Jon, a parent of one of the WAFC middle school players, has been a regular adult pickup player on Sunday mornings at Nolte for the past 15 years, and lives up the street from Nolte. He, along with other parents, will support beginners by using soft discs, Ultimate discs, and disc golf discs. Here are some values we aim to uphold:

• Have Fun with Compassion for Others

• Mistakes Happen; They Are Part of the Process

• Practice & Learn

• All Skill Levels Are Welcome

• Cross-Disc Training = Better Ultimate Players

Nolte Morning Game

Adults gather at Nolte Park year-round on Sundays at 9:00 AM (for ages 40+) and 10:30 AM (for younger players). These friendly, highly skilled games have been a staple in the DC area for over 25 years. Join a welcoming community of skilled players for an engaging, non-competitive game. Also, if you are not a super skilled player that is okay, all are welcome, however if you are an absolute beginner please attend the Youth game to hone your skills first.

Join the 10:30 AM Facebook Group Nolte Late Game

The Nolte game is one of the oldest in the country, with friendly players happy to help newcomers. Feel free to come by, watch, join the game or get some pointers from super talented local folks. There is always someone to huck a disc with on Sunday mornings at Nolte - rain, snow, or shine!

The Nolte 10:30 crew has previously scrimmaged against the Blair High School team, coached by Kris, a Nolte regular. We look forward to organizing another friendly match soon!

Nolte @ Night

This has never happened, but there has been talks amongst players to try and have a late, dark game where all players would have to wear lights and the disc would have lights on it. Nolte has some lights near the apartment buildings, which help with light, however it is fairly dark. If you are interested in joining for this, please email Jon at jon@ssultimate.org. Would be like a 9pm game.
